January 31, 2017
As every year, this 28th February Rare Disease Day will be held around the world with the aim of raising global awareness amongst the general public and decision-makers about rare diseases and their impact on patients' lives. For this reason, Rare Disease Day targets not only the general public but also policy makers, public authorities, industry representatives, researchers, health professionals and anyone who has a genuine interest in rare diseases.
The Rare Disease Day 2017 theme is research and the slogan is “With research, possibilities are limitless”. Research is cornerstone for the understanding of the basis of rare diseases, the discovery of new ones, perform the correct diagnosis and sometimes, even find a cure when did not exist.
On 28 February 2017, the tenth edition of Rare Disease Day is therefore an opportunity to encourage researchers, universities, students, companies, and clinicians to foster research and the involvement of patients in the research world through their participation in clinical trials, advocacy and funding as well as their inclusion in governance of projects.
